We all know Canada has a housing shortage. What Burlington is experiencing is unplanned development. The city turns down an application, the province (OLT) overrules the city, and up goes the development. Densification combined with a stated policy of no road widenings to accommodate increases in traffic volumes is leading to gridlock. Allowing condo towers with less than one parking spot per unit is making it difficult to find parking downtown, hurting local businesses. With properly planned communities, Burlington can maintain its unique character and help alleviate the housing shortage.
